Skip to 2:30 on this first video.
I pre-ordered Driven back when i watched the first 3 minutes, and all of the trailers. 11/1 the film makers put the screener online for the media and the people who donated $40 or more to the film. As far as I know it is community funded.
Here’s my short review:
Raw and Powerful can’t even begin to go through the range of emotions this film evokes. You have a fighter who comes from nothing, fought his whole life since he was a little kid. He fought his socio-economic shackles, he fought his father, he fought. He was on bottom, on top, and back on bottom. He put himself to the test fighting at 170, 155, and 145. Incredible. He did just about everything you could do in the sport, he fought everywhere you could fight at the time. Most people don’t appreciate what they have in life, but I now appreciate my upbringing more. This film makes you reflect and consider your outlook on life in reference to Jens’. He battles with anxiety on a daily basis. His social commentary on Martin Luther King Jr, and what he wants his legacy to be, what makes a famous person vs what makes a popular person is pretty profound. He’s completely right. We’ll always remember this Jens. His family, his fans, and his pride keep him moving forward every day. The intensity, focus, and perseverance put forth easily translated to film. The camera shots and lighting during all of the weight cutting scenes accented the camera shots and editing for the rest of the film. I like how Gregory Bayne accented the whole film with Jens trying to not just cut weight, but to shed anxiety and burdens. Simply put: Emotion, Power, Drive.
I’ve seen a lot of fighter documentaries, this blows them all away. Tyson is the only thing that comes even close, but its nowhere near as emotional.
